International Standard Recording Code (ISRC)

CDRUK can add ISRC to recordings as part of the mastering process.

It should be noted however that we cannot issue you with an ISRC, simply encode it into your disc.

In order to obtain an ISRC for your product you will need to contact PPL, details of their services and contact details are set out below.

The ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is the international identification system for sound recordings and music video recordings. Each ISRC is a unique and permanent identifier for a specific recording, which can be permanently encoded into a product as its digital fingerprint. Encoded ISRC can provide the means to automatically identify recordings for royalty payments.

The ISRC number is allocated to the recording by the first record label releasing the track. This number is then used to identify the recording forever, regardless of subsequent releases or acquisition by other repertoire owners. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) recommends that all music producers use ISRC.

Accordingly the IFPI appoints an agency in each country to ensure that ISRC is properly administered at a local level. Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) is the agency for ISRC in the UK .

In order to allocate a First Registrant Code, PPL require full contact details; first owner name, address, telephone number and contact name.

If you have any concerns or questions regarding the allocation of ISRCs contact the PPL Member Helpdesk as detailed above.
